I guess I turned to the dark side…

It’s The Second Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

That’s right, everyone, today was Opening Day 2011! Now that I am back from the game, I can reminisce about how awesome it felt to FINALLY be back at the K. I don’t know what it is, the smell of the grass, the endless supply of brats, hot dogs, peanuts, frosty malts, and everything else you can eat, or, simply, the baseball that makes today so fantastic. Whether it’s a blistering 90 degrees out or a shockingly cold 40 degrees, it doesn’t matter because baseball is back! It may not be America’s pastime anymore, but it’s still one of the single greatest experiences a person can have.

I still remember going to ballgames for my birthday, every year, when I was a kid. Late summer at Kauffman Stadium with my dad, rarely seeing a win, it was still the most fun I could have had. Even in later years, going to Opening Day with my work folks, having an awesome tailgate, and then still seeing a loss. It really doesn’t get much better than that.

I’ve made it my goal this year to go to as many games as I can, whether it’s Royals games at the K, Springfield Cardinals games (ideally when they play the Naturals), or wherever I end up. If I’ve learned anything, it’s this: Life is too short to waste away in school, or at work. But, life is never too short to blow off a day at either of those places and head to a ballgame.
