Week Late Movie Reviews: Green Lantern

leave a comment »

This one is kind of a big deal. In the world of super heroes, Green Lantern is tops for me. Was this a perfect movie? No, it really wasn’t. Was it a movie that I enjoyed a great deal? Yeah, it really was. I’ll explain in more detail after the jump.

A Little Late, But I Promise It’s Good…

Sometimes the shows we watch as kids leave a lasting impression. With just a few notes, I can pick out the theme songs to shows like Reading Rainbow, Gargoyles, X-Men, Goosebumps, Doug and millions of other shows that I spent my childhood afternoons and Saturday mornings watching. It provided a great nostalgic time in college when my friends and I could gather around a computer screen and watch YouTube videos of all our favorite shows, providing us a rare opportunity to remember the old days even though we were all in the 18-20 age range.

That feeling was one of the reasons I got legitimately excited when I heard about A-1’s After School Special mixtape, because he samples the classic shows I grew up watching for his raps and they all sound great. A-1 is a rapper out of the San Francisco bay area and I have definitely grown to enjoy his stuff…even to the point of annoying my last girlfriend with it. Don’t believe me? Check this out…

When it first came out, I was definitely into the Power Rangers phenomenon and to hear someone sample the beat to put together a solid rap that that is awesome. Power Rangers isn’t the only major show sampled either, he uses shows like Pokemon, Family Matters, Doug, and a whole lot more.

Like what you hear? Check it out here. Want to hear a few more of my favorites? Check it out after the jump.

Please Don’t Screw This Up…

Green Lantern is my favorite superhero. I’m not 100% sure why, it could be the semi-obscurity of the character, it could be the fact that I didn’t want to pick someone from Marvel and I sure as hell didn’t want Batman or Superman, or it could be the awesome episodes of Superfriends I used to watch on Cartoon Network. I really don’t know, but what I do know is that coming tomorrow night I will be at the movie theater to see the Green Lantern movie. All I can ask is that they don’t screw this up. Week Late Movie Reviews: X-Men: First Class

leave a comment »

Little bit late one this one, but here we go. Hollywood is doing a good job of surprising me so far this year. First it was Hangover Part 2 that surprised me after being less than impressive in the commercial and trailer market, now it’s time for Marvel’s mutants to leave me amazed. The movie wasn’t without it’s flaws, but it was a strong re-entry into the world of the X-Men…something that was sorely needed after the cinematic abortion that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This Is Kind Of Awesome/Scary

Sharks are scary, but apparently not to this woman. Her name is Valerie Taylor and she thinks Great White Sharks are peaceful creatures, citing this video as evidence. While I’m certain that there is a possibility that Shark Week has been right all along and these sharks could just be misunderstood, I’m more of the thinking that they are bloodthirsty killing machines. Jaws taught me that.

Week Late Movie Reviews…The Hangover Part 2

leave a comment »

I still remember the first time I saw The Hangover, I had seen a few commercials for it but wasn’t sure what to think of it. So I got my brother and we went to go see what I was sure was going to be a forgettable comedy, boy was I wrong. By the end of the epically hilarious credits, I was pleasantly surprised at how funny this movie actually was. Bradley Cooper was playing a great straight man to Zack Galifiankis’ insane Alan, Ed Helms was equally hilarious, and the movie put together a great, new, comedy trio. I liked The Hangover enough that it was put in the same class as movies like Old School, Anchorman, Animal House and the rest, movies that were so funny they didn’t need a sequel because there was no way it could do justice. Then I heard about The Hangover Part 2… Read the rest of this entry »

It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

leave a comment »

It’s that time again, E3 is back! Coming June 7, in the wonderful world of California, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is going to introduce the world to the biggest innovations in gaming. This is the biggest event in gaming, this is the Super Bowl, the March Madness, the Wrestlemania, the (insert copyrighted event name that is big and will probably get me sued). To me, this is video game Christmas (not to be confused with real Christmas where I generally get video games), this is the event that can determine the fate of the next year for any company. This is make or break, this is the big reveal for every game maker, this event even has an insane amount of coverage on G4! To celebrate, I’ve decided to mention a few of the highlights I am looking for most…
