The Tebow “Thing”

The CBS Crew Gets It

This is not meant to be me “gushing” over Tim Tebow. This is to talk about the Broncos win to me, what this win means to me, and the state of my fandom.

Six years ago, the Denver Broncos faced a home game where a win placed them in the playoffs. To go along with this they had a young quarterback, Jay Cutler, and had lost the heart of the defense, Al Wilson. They lost this game, that night Darrent Williams was murdered, and in two short years the team would see a tremendous makeover. Over that six years, the Broncos saw a new head coach, a QB traded, a WR traded, 8-8 seasons, mediocrity, and a whole lot of things that I didn’t enjoy. This year, I got to go to Sports Authority Field at Mile High for the week 17 match up with the Chiefs. It was eerily similar, a young quarterback leading the Broncos to a win and you’re in scenario at home in a season where the heart of the Denver defense, Brian Dawkins, was injured. As much as I loved my trip, and there will be a post about that later, the Broncos lost and it looked in question about whether the Broncos will be in the playoffs. Then, a miracle happened, and Oakland lost to San Diego and the Broncos were in the playoffs. Read the rest of this entry »

A Little Late, But I Promise It’s Good…

Sometimes the shows we watch as kids leave a lasting impression. With just a few notes, I can pick out the theme songs to shows like Reading Rainbow, Gargoyles, X-Men, Goosebumps, Doug and millions of other shows that I spent my childhood afternoons and Saturday mornings watching. It provided a great nostalgic time in college when my friends and I could gather around a computer screen and watch YouTube videos of all our favorite shows, providing us a rare opportunity to remember the old days even though we were all in the 18-20 age range.

That feeling was one of the reasons I got legitimately excited when I heard about A-1’s After School Special mixtape, because he samples the classic shows I grew up watching for his raps and they all sound great. A-1 is a rapper out of the San Francisco bay area and I have definitely grown to enjoy his stuff…even to the point of annoying my last girlfriend with it. Don’t believe me? Check this out…

When it first came out, I was definitely into the Power Rangers phenomenon and to hear someone sample the beat to put together a solid rap that that is awesome. Power Rangers isn’t the only major show sampled either, he uses shows like Pokemon, Family Matters, Doug, and a whole lot more.

Like what you hear? Check it out here. Want to hear a few more of my favorites? Check it out after the jump.

This Is Kind Of Awesome/Scary

Sharks are scary, but apparently not to this woman. Her name is Valerie Taylor and she thinks Great White Sharks are peaceful creatures, citing this video as evidence. While I’m certain that there is a possibility that Shark Week has been right all along and these sharks could just be misunderstood, I’m more of the thinking that they are bloodthirsty killing machines. Jaws taught me that.

Week Late Movie Reviews: Thor

The Avengers movie project, courtesy of Marvel, is something that a lot of people are excited about. The idea of seeing Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and the rest on screen together is a nerd’s dream. Throw in that the movie will have a cast featuring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and many more, and is being directed by Nerd-King Joss Whedon, then you have what could be considered the comic movie event of 2012. So far, we have seen the fantastic Iron Man, the much better than prior attempts Incredible Hulk and the good but not great Iron Man 2; Captain America comes to theaters in July, but just over a week ago we were treated to Thor. How did it hold up? Read the rest of this entry »

Hmmm…

I woke up to see a new trailer for another one of the many, many movies I am looking forward to this summer. While most of you have heard about Thor, Captain America, Harry Potter, X-Men First Class and all fo the rest, here is one that you may not have heard about…Cowboys and Aliens.

Directed by Joh Favreau (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, sadly not Iron Man 3) and starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde, Cowboys and Aliens looks to be a highly visual, sci-fi summer romp. The IMDB page sums it up best, “A spaceship arrives in Arizona, 1873, to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys are all that stand in their way.” Given that I enjoy sci-fi and western films, this should be one that can’t miss. If you enjoy sci-fi and westerns as well, you should probably check it out this summer. If you dig westerns but maybe not sci-fi, then you may want to pass. Either way, this should be a kick ass summer flick

It’s Time To Get…Nerdy

leave a comment »

Coming July 22, it’s time for the first Avenger…Captain America. To say that I am excited about this movie would be a gross understatement. I don’t really care how nerdy it is, I am pumped for this one.

Not only will we get an origin story for Steve Rogers, better known as the Cap, but it is the final tie-in to The Avengers movie coming out in 2012. Even better? It’s a period film set during World War 2. Ideally you have already watched the trailer above, and, as a bonus, I have posted one of the single greatest parody trailers ever after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

Enjoy The Awesome…

One of my favorite shows on TV is Community. It’s the reference-heavy tale of former lawyer, Jeff Winger, and the group of misfits he meets in community college. The show has introduced me to many things in the year and a half that it has been on TV, things like Alison Brie, Chevy Chase still being funny, Annie’s Boobs, and the character Troy Barnes, played by a comedian named Donald Glover.

Glover stood out to me the most after the second episode of the show when he and another character did the “Spanish Rap.”

The awesome continued on throughout the season and into the geek world when a small campaign started to get him an audition for the role of Spider-Man in the forthcoming reboot. Recently, I have discovered another talent of his: music. Check out his rap alter ego, Childish Gambino…

Like it? Check out his site here.
