The Eternal Problem

Like most people working in radio today, I am working in a format that doesn’t suit my personality. To say that I am not a “country” person would be a gross understatement. It’s funny, I find myself working for a country station, while my desires of working in a rock or sports format go unfulfilled for the time being. This presents a series of problems for me, such as developing my persona in a way that provides entertainment to my listeners as well as allows me to further my experience as a radio personality.

The most difficult aspect of this, I am finding, is that my station targets itself more toward and older crowd as opposed to younger audience more in my age range. As problematic as this has proven for me as an on-air talent, it is an issue that I feel I can overcome in due time. I’m told to be myself on-air, but what if being myself isn’t in line with the format? I know that I am only part time and the world is my playground, but I need to find a way to both develop myself and provide a good service to my listeners and station.

Back to the drawing board, it seems…
